banana cake and pillow talk

wow, thursday got here quick
happy day friends!

on the way up north this past weekend
i finished sewing and stuffing a pillow i made my mom for her birthday
that i thought i would share with you

mucho mucho grande
is something my mom and i say to one another following 'i love you' or instead of 'i love you'
she started saying it to me when i was six
so it has a special meaning to us
i decided to embroider it on the pillow
these pics don't do it justice
it's much cuter in real life

a few of you mentioned in this post that you would like the recipe for my banana cake

when you say you want something
i try my best to deliver
so here it is

Banana Cake

2c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1c. sugar
1/2c. butter (1 stick)
2 eggs
2 bananas
(mushed... i like to use three and the really ripe dark yucky looking ones)
1tsp. vanilla
1/4c. milk

cream together butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and bananas
add dry ingredients - gradually add milk
pour into cake pans
bake at 350 for 20 minutes

Carmel Frosting

1c. brown sugar
1/4c. butter (1/2 stick)
1/4c. milk
1tsp. vanilla

cook the brown sugar, butter and milk on the stove
let melt and stir
bring it to a boil for 1 min.
take off heat
add vanilla
stir
and spoon generously onto the cake

i usually double the carmel recipe...mmmmmm

let me know if you make it
and of course, what you think of it once you do!

enjoy your thursday my friends!

xo,
kass

The pillow you made for your mom turned out to be so cute! I'm sure it was prettier in real life but it still looks awesome in the pictures.

Oh...and wanna hear something awful? I broke one o my fillings at lunch today so even just looking at that banana caramel cake is giving me a tooth ache. It looks so yummy but so painful!

What a sweet pillow, and I love that it has real meaning behind it.

I applaud you for baking, it's something I've never really gotten into. Your cake looks yummy, and maybe I'll give it a try without the frosting (sorry, I don't like frosting on cakes or cupcakes). I'm going to make cinnamon raisin bread this weekend...in the bread machine so I don't have to do much work!

Hi..new follower as of today, even though I've read you every day for the last few months :o)

I just had to comment on your 'MMG' you and your mom share, I think it's so sweet, esp since my Dad and I share one.. LU5XF which stands for 'love you 5 X forever'. When I was young 5 was the highest # I could count to therefore telling him 'love you 5 forevers daddy' was a huge amount to me. And it's stuck with us two all these 29 years!

Anyways...I really enjoy your blog!

snow - the recipe makes really good banana bread too... just pour it into a bread pan and don't add the carmel... so yummy with a bit of peanut butter!
enjoy your raisin bread - yummy!

jilian - i LOVE that! i love the fact that we are both 29 and still say it! i don't think i've ever met anyone who 'got' the mmg thing... so it's nice to meet you!
super cute story jilian.... and i also love that it's with your dad... :-)
